South Africa continues to grow rapidly as a tourist destination.
One of the greatest attractions is Table Mountain, which offers fantastic views of Cape Town and beyond. Also the city of Johannesburg is a big draw together with it’s nearby township of Soweto.

Johannesburg International Airport is the busiest in South Africa and is located 22kms northeast of Johannesburg city centre.
Amenities at Johannesburg International Airport include Banks, ATMs and currency exchange facilities in the international arrivals hall. There is also a post office, a medical clinic and a chapel.
There is a huge duty-free shopping mall in the international terminal which supplies a mixture of African products and artifacts plus international goods such as sportswear, liquor, perfume, tobacco, jewellery and confectionary .
Twenty-two restaurants, cafés and pubs throughout the airport offer a range of dining options from fast food to African cuisine. The is also the Premier Conference Centre situated in the domestic terminal which rooms for business meetings and conferences.
Cape Town International Airport about 12 miles from the city and has six terminals.
T1, T2 and T6 handle international flights and T3, T4 and T5 domestic flights.
Cape Town International Airport is a very modern airport with excellent facilities and services. (there are around twenty shops in the international terminal and a further seven in the domestic terminal. They sell regional specialities, including diamonds, wine, sweets, tobacco, books, fashion clothing and souvenirs. There are about a dozen bars and cafes that offer a wide choice of dining options.
Picking up your hire car
At Cape Town airport the car hire desks are located outside on either side of the Terminal Building.
At Johannesburg airport the hire car desks are located in the Arrivals Hall.

Before you arrive in South Africa, check on your booking confirmation for the name of your supplier (e.g. Avis, Hertz, etc.). Your voucher will have full pick up instructions.
You will need to show your passport, voucher, credit card, national driving license and an International Driving Permit (obtainable in your home country from motoring organisations (e.g. AA, AAA, RAC, RACE, etc).
Before signing, carefully read the supplier’s terms and conditions to ensure there are no surprise clauses (e.g. If you are driving to a different state such as Botswana, check your insurance policy covers this.)
Make sure the rental contract shows any damage, scratches, etc. – insist that the staff note existing damage on your agreement as having been done before your agreement commences.
You also need to check the vehicle is equipped with the required safety equipment for the country you are travelling to (e.g. warning triangles).
Check the fuel policy with the supplier. Usually vehicles must be returned as full as they were when handed over to you - otherwise you will be charged to refill the car on return – probably at a higher rate than pump prices!
