France is a country of contrasts with a multitude of landscapes and is probably the world’s favourite destination.

Whether it is shopping on the chic boulevards of Paris or a winter break on the sparkling ski slopes of the Alps, a relaxing beach weekend on the sun filled Riviera or exploring the fairy tale castles of the Loire Valley, the choice is vast. Ever popular Provence and Paris, top the list in terms of visitor numbers, but other less well-known regions should be explored.

Deep in the green heart , villages typical of provincial France, are firmly rooted in the land, (Franche-Comté, Gascony or Berry,) while the “island of beauty” (Corsica) offers all the charm of the Mediterranean without the crowds.

Driving tips/rules.

Parking is difficult especially in the larger cities and even more so in Paris...you face heavy on the spot fines and even towing if you don’t follow the parking restrictions. Watch for the “alternate side” parking..this means that you can park on one side of the street for the first half of the month and the other for the rest of the month.

Road signs marked 1-15 or 16-31 mean that you cannot park on the side of the road where the sign is posted between those dates. Parking on the left side of a street is allowed along one-way streets.

The Speed limit on a motorway is 130 kph, Major roads 110 and in towns 50kph..less when roads are wet.

Children under 10 must travel in rear of car.

Blood/alcohol limit is 50mg. You can face fines of up to 30,000 Francs and 2 years in jail..DON’T drink and drive!!

A temperate climate in the north; northeastern areas have a more continental climate with warm summers and colder winters. Rainfall is distributed throughout the year with some snow likely in winter. Mediterranean climate in the south; mountains are cooler with heavy snow in winter, in western coastal areas the weather is relatively mild with rainfall throughout the year. Summers can be very hot. Inland areas are mild. The Riviera, Provence and Roussillon tend to have a more mediterranean climate. Weather in the Alps is variable. So.....Basically a bit of everything!!
