Car Hire UK

Places to Visit in the UK

Although the UK is relatively small is has a very diverse geography, from flat fenlands to mountain crags, skiing in the highlands of Scotland to the many hundreds of miles of sandy beaches around the coastline.

  • Mount snowdon in Wales, breathtaking in it's majesty.
  • Blackpool - because everyone should try it once! .
  • Buckingham Palace
  • The lake district .
  • Salisbury cathedral
  • Stonehenge.

My favorite things

  • Spring in Cornwall.
  • Clotted cream teas.
  • Walking in the woods.
  • Politicians - they're so funny!
  • Village greens.

Driving tips/rules.

Drive on the left - give way to traffic from the left when you get to one of our amazing roundabouts . Watch out for speed cameras, even in a hire car you'll still pay the automatic fine, the car hire company will deduct it from your credit card.

Remember that drink driving is considered a very serious offence which can end in a prison sentence so our advice is - DON'T.

The national speed limit for all roads except motorways and some duel carriageways is 60MPH (miles per hour), motorways and some duel carriageways are 70MPH. To be safe, drop down to 30MPH when going through any village, even if you don't see a speed limit sign.

Interesting facts

  • Rudolf Hess was kept in the Abergavenny town asylum after flying to Scotland to try to negotiate a peace deal.
  • Where did the first flight from Heathrow airport fly to and how long are the runways put together? Buenos Aires and 4.7 miles.
  • In Yourk city it's still legal to maim or kill a scotsman! But only with a bow and arrow and only on a Sunday - although we definitely don't recommend trying it!!
  • Crystal Palace was built for the 1851 great exhibition used over a million square metres of glass and was visited by over 6 million people.
  • The oldest and largest royal rsidence anywhere in the world that is still being used as a home by a royal family.

Local food/drink

Because of the influx of immigrants that has happened over the last 1000 years (all those people from our 'empire' as well as the British taste for travel, the food in the UK today is very eclectic. True we have a reputation for boiling vegetables to death and liking very strong 'smelly' chees but you'll find any taste catered for. Things to try would be good old 'Bangers and Mash' - sausages with mashed potatoes and lots of meaty gravy.

Treacle suet pudding and custard - a school favorite in the good old days! A 'full english' a breakfast that will set you up for the day. Afternoon tea - delicate sandwiches, cakes, scones and savouries accompanied by a pot of good strong tea! Fish 'n' chips, crispy battered cod and a portion of chips (fries) along with mushy peas or curry sauce - fattening true but very good.

Weather

Hmmmmmmmm, what to say about the weather, well I guess you need to take layers, in the UK you can experience all four seasons in one day, although generally speaking the summers are warmer than the winters the only certain thing about the weather is............ it's uncertainty!
