Airport Car Hire - What you need to know.

Do you wonder why we have a section dedicated to airport car hire? Simply because it can cause some problems when people think they've booked a car at the airport - only to find that actually - they have to get on a shuttle bus.

As you can imagine, if you expect to walk to your car from the arrivals hall to your car and then you find you have to get on a bus, it can be a little annoying!

So here's the scoop so to speak, at smaller airports then you can usually walk to the car because there is room to hold the cars on the airport grounds. Now there are also small airports where some suppliers just have a small van/vehicle as a rental desk, where you will fill in the paperwork then get on a bus to actually pick up the car.

Many people don't like this because they feel it takes too much time but in reality it can be much quicker to get your car this way because there are not so many people in the queue!

Now let's talk about the much larger airports and international hubs, these are moving over to having a dedicated 'Car Rental Center' off airport, some suppliers will still have desks in the arrivals hall but ALL cars will be off airport.

This is not as bad as it sounds because it means that staffing levels will be higher and once you've completed all paperwork, you'll just be able to walk to your car. The main thing for you to be aware of is that this will in the long term keep airport car hire prices down, as the costs of keeping vehicles on airport and all the security issues would eventually make renting a car at an airport a luxury only for the very wealthy.
